Weekends are a great way to unwind and there is nothing better than indulging in an evening out with friends. Too much indulgence over time asks for a price in return – an unbalanced body. An occasional detox works wonders for an unbalanced body. Imbalances in our body don’t show up immediately but they are an underlying cause for most lifestyle diseases. By detoxing we get rid of unwanted and toxic build up in the body. It is good to detox once a month as it not only clears the body of foreign substances, but also gives the overworked digestive system a much needed rest.

My most favourite and simplest detox is a three day cleanse. Day one starts with a kidney cleanse and does not really require much effort. Sip on parsley water as many times as you can throughout the day. No tea or coffee please. The second day is more for giving the stomach a good rest. Eliminate all solid food and opt for cold presses juice. A Home Pressed Juice Cleanse starts to clear the old toxins from the body while supplying the body with the nutrients required for daily functioning. This way you don’t feel tired or depleted as the juice ensures both vitamins and water reaches the body. Make sure that the juice taken the whole day is a vegetable juice and not a fruit juice. Leave day three for eating semi solid or pulpy food. Rice gruel or broth works well. Do not overload the system with solids immediately so stick with broths and soups.

Another detox is a liver detox. Good for all of us who have had more than their fair share of drinking.

A two day fruit fast is also great to detox over the weekend. Start with eating as much fruit as you want. Do not mix fruit. At one time eat only one kind of fruit. Certain fruits like the melons do not combine well with other fruits. At one time if you are eating a banana then just eat the banana. Wait for 30 minutes to an hour before indulging in the next fruit. Don’t mix vegetables with fruits. Give yourself a good 24 hours with fruits. The next day follow up with a light meal. Do not reach out for eggs, bread etc – the body finds these difficult to digest, so opt for a clear soup or a rice gruel.

Eat well, exercise, and so you can use your body to strengthen your soul. Connect with yourself and be entered.
